Tragic Update on UPS Accident: Death Toll Climbs to 13

The tally of victims resulting from the UPS cargo plane that ignited and crashed has now risen to 13, as confirmed by recent statements.

Mayor's Announcement

While en route to the Union’s candlelight gathering, I received word of a 13th person that passed away as a outcome of the plane crash,” stated the local official in a public communication. “My heart is with the loved ones, associates and colleagues of all who were killed in this recent disaster. We will get through this together.”

Victims Identified

A statement from the company identified the officers aboard the McDonnell Douglas MD-11 as Pilot Richard Wartenberg, Co-pilot Lee Truitt, and Relief Captain Dana Diamond.

“Our sympathies reach out to all staff member who has been affected and everyone in our local community – supporting you and ensuring you get the care and aid you need is our main concern,” the company’s message expressed.

Probe Findings

Federal officials announced that the jet’s port side wing caught fire and an power plant fell off just after liftoff from the airfield, resulting in the plane to crash and erupt into a fireball.

The National Transportation Safety Board stated it is probing the plane’s service record, which was in the state for repairs weeks ahead of the crash.

Aircraft information revealed the aircraft was on the ground in that location from 3 September to last week.

“We are aware that this jet was there in San Antonio,” remarked an investigator on Thursday, without providing a specific period. “We will look at all elements of service that was completed, including the San Antonio period, right up to the day of the flight.”

Findings of Critical Components

The pilot’s recorder and information unit were found, and the motor was discovered on the airfield.

The recorders – referred to as black boxes – were designed to endure crash impacts and extreme temperatures from fires, and they seemed to be in one piece when discovered among the wreckage. Investigators plan on reviewing recordings from the black boxes.

Jet’s concluding data recordings showed an altitude of that level and a rate of 210 miles per hour prior to the impact.

Maintenance History

Based on Federal Aviation Administration files from 18 September, a fissure on a component inside the tank area demanded fixes.

The company ST Engineering, which said it provides airframe maintenance for the carrier’s MD-11 and manages a service location in that city, declined to provide remarks, but said it would assist completely when relevant authorities reached out it.

Operations Resume

Meanwhile, the hub services continued last night with its express or nighttime operation, representative the company official stated. All three tarmacs at the airport were also open again.

The sorting center in Louisville is the firm’s biggest. The facility hires over a large number of people in the area, handles three hundred flights each day and sorts in excess of a huge volume of items each hour.

Community Response

A memorial was conducted on the evening of 6 November by the regional labor union, which supports staff at the airfield, the firm’s largest freight center.

The union chapter, which represents employees, began the gathering with a period of reflection at 5.14pm, the rough hour of the accident two days earlier.

“This incident was so abrupt, so surprising,” the mayor told the crowd of attendees. “No one had a chance to say goodbye to any one of those who we have mourned.”
